Big crash in race 3 at Zandvoort
Bad luck and safety cars ruined the two Sunday races for Scott Kin Lindblom in the Ginetta Junior Championship – ending the day with a big pile up in the last corner out on the start/finish straight.
The second race of the Ginetta Junior Championship Sunday morning at Zandvoort was really close to be a success. Scott started P4 and quickly got up to P2 chasing the leader, team mate Rocco Coronel – also in Red Bull livery. The two gained a bit of a gap to the cars chasing them, but with six minutes remaining of the race Noah Young was stranded with a broken rear suspension and the safety car was deployed.
– We got a one lap drag race when the lights turned green, a few corners from the finish straight I went for it and tried to go for the win, but there was no grip on the outside and the guys behind slipped trough, says Scott who finished P5.
In race 3 Scott started P5 and quickly overtook the cars ahead up to P2 when he gained advantage of a skirmish between the leading cars, but again the safety car was deployed. The race restarted with seven minutes remaining of the 20 minute race time, and that was when the going went rough. Scott Kin Lindblom went on the inside for the lead but was hit and lost positions.
– A driver hit another driver who hit me, and I lost probably ten positions, Scott says.
The chasing pack was trading paint and plastic parts until the big crash was a fact. Several cars were involved and the number 8 car with Scott in it was one of them. Red flag and the race stopped.
– We have had great speed at Zandvoort and I'm satisfied with my race craft, it was just one of those weekends when you are at the wrong place at the wrong time and become collateral damage, says Scott.
Positive things to bring home from Zandvoort: P3 in the rookie class in the first race on Saturday, P4 overall. Best lap time in the rookie class in race 3 on Sunday: No. 8 Scott Kin Lindblom 2:05.616 average speed 122.06 km/h.
