GAME ON: DONINGTON PARK THIS WEEKEND

Round seven of ten in the British Formula 4 Championship awaits at Donington Park. Red Bull Junior and Hitech driver Scott Kin Lindblom, from Vika outside Falun, Sweden, heads into the weekend fifth in the championship standings – with the goal of finishing the season strongly.
– The goal is to keep working and score as many points as possible over the remaining races, says Scott.

Preparations for the weekend began with official testing on Thursday, but weather conditions limited running. The first test session was lost to rain, while the second was held on a reasonably dry track. Scott is already familiar with the circuit, having tested at Donington Park earlier this season. At a test in early August, he was the fastest driver of the entire field – a result that provided an additional confidence boost heading into the second half of the championship.

During the short summer break from British Formula 4, Scott has also had the opportunity to test the next step in his career. He has completed three FREC tests, finishing third, first and second, with competitive lap times that have attracted attention. On Monday, the testing programme continues at Valencia, where Scott will join championship-leading R-ACE GP.
FREC can, in simple terms, be described as a regional European F3 championship, one step below FIA Formula 3, which races alongside Formula 1 on Grand Prix weekends. The recent test days brought together several of the leading drivers from F4 championships around the world. For Scott, the tests have provided a clear indication that the car suits his driving style.
– I’m really looking forward to making the step up to FREC, it’s a car that suits my driving style very well, says Scott Kin Lindblom.

Like the F4 car, the FREC car is built around a Tatuus chassis, but there are significant differences between the two.
– The car has more functions, including push-to-pass, so there are more buttons on the steering wheel to keep track of. In slow corners, the car is very similar to the F4 car, but in faster corners you can stay on the throttle much more thanks to the improved aerodynamics. The car is bigger, the wheels are bigger, the engine is bigger and, of course, the car is faster. Everything is simply more advanced.

The increased performance also brings new demands on the driver, particularly when it comes to tyre management.
– You need considerably more tyre management in the FREC car. You essentially only have one push lap, a cool-down lap and then one more push lap to set your qualifying times. You simply cannot make mistakes, because the tyres don’t recover.

While the FREC testing is an important part of Scott’s long-term development, the focus now returns to British Formula 4 and this weekend’s racing. With three race weekends still remaining after the current round, there are plenty of points still available for Scott Kin Lindblom.
